Plastic drip tray for Weber Q BBQ's. These plastic drip trays replace the disposable aluminium trays that sit in the slide in aluminium tray under a Weber Q series BBQ. The trouble with the disposable aluminium trays, (or just using aluminium foil) is that it sets up a galvanic reaction with the aluminium slide tray … This eventually puts holes through both trays and then hot fat drips onto the ground / patio / pavement. The disposable aluminium trays (not cheap either) only last a little while and then they hole and drip again.
So I created some tray designs that I then wrap the inside in aluminium foil and add some BBQ fat absorbing pellets to. I use “fat-sorb” from Bunnings. Every year or so I throw away the fatty pellets and foil and reline it and add new pellets. No need for gloves, very simple, no mess and no fat fires on your BBQ.
This plastic tray remains clean and untouched and as it electrically insulates the foil from the lower slide in aluminium tray, so no holes. The plastic tray will last for decades. Even if you have holes in the aluminium slide tray it doesn't matter as the plastic tray doesn't leak.
I print the trays in high heat resistant plastics like those used in your car. However these don't actually get hot at all as there is a constant stream of cool air coming up into the vent and up to the burners. I have not had these trays burn or deform in any way after 2 years of use, and I BBQ's every day or two.
